Prostate-Specific Antigen or PSA is a material that the cells of prostate are producing. It is found mostly in semen, but a tiny bit of it can be found in the blood. Elevated degree of this substance may or may not be an indication that there is a prostate cancer or an enlargement of prostate called prostatitis on the man individual.

Most of the healthy men’s PSA level is actually under four nanogram/milliliter of blood. This figure has been used like a cutoff period; any changes in this level would mean a possible trouble with the prostate gland. Meaning the chance of having a prostate cancer increases as the PSA level goes up. PSA level may also be used by the doctor for screening purposes. This is one way of testing the presence of the cancer even when there aren’t any symptoms projected.

There are reviews that men with below 4 PSA have a cancer whenever biopsy. When the PSA level is in the borderline range which means between 4 and Ten, you have about one in four chance of having cancer. When it is more than 10, 50% is your chance of having a cancer. This test isn’t 100%sure though. You need to undergo another test like the digital rectal exam or DRE for the physician to make certain whether indeed prostate cancer is present or not. If both tests are used and resulted to some positive prostate cancer, it is most likely at the early stage and is treatable. This is the benefit of individual who have undergone series of tests.

PSA test can help you spot the presence of possible prostate cancer, but it could not tell how dangerous the cancer is actually. The good thing about this test is that, an elevated PSA level would give the individual an opportunity to treat as early a potential the cancer that they never would have known they have. Treatment can be plan with the doctor before it becomes serious and untreatable which would lead to death. Surgery or radiation is the possible treatment of the cancer depending on the severity of the disease.

Other reasons why there is an increase in the actual PSA level includes: an enlarge prostate gland as the men grow older, as the men grows old, the actual PSA level also increases even if there is no abnormality in their prostate, Infection of the prostate gland called prostatitis and through ejaculation which happens only for a short time. Whatever the reason for the rise in the level of PSA above or below normal, a need to see your doctor is a must enemy further testing. This is also for your peace of mind which you must undergo. For more details, just simply visit this site http://www.PSALevels.org.

A prostate gland is found in the reproductive system of the male found just below another excretory organ called bladder and it is in front of the lower part of the intestine. It just the same size as the walnut and surrounds most part of the urethra. This gland produces fluids which is part of the semen.

Prostate cancer is a type of excretory disease wherein there is an irregular growth of malignant cells form in the prostate’s tissues. This is mostly possible on older men. As time passes, their prostate becomes larger and will have the tendency to bar either the bladder or the urethra. Difficulty in urinating and often interfere with sexual function happens.

Treatment options for prostate cancer depend on several factors. The first is on your overall health, how fast cancer is spreading, how much it has spread and the possible side effects of the treatment. If the cancer is diagnosed early, therapy right away may not be necessary, others may not need it after all. Doctors would recommend what you call an active surveillance. It includes regular blood tests, biopsies and rectal exams to take note of the progress of the cancer.

If it’s progressing, you need to talk to your physician to come up with a treatment plan that is suited for your cancer stage. One of the possible treatments is thru radiation therapy. This method makes use of high powered energy to kill the cancer cells. There are two ways of delivering radiation: external beam radiation or brachytherapy where rice-sized radioactive seeds are implanted in your prostate tissue.

Another treatment is the use of hormone therapy to stop the body from producing testosterone, a male hormone. Remember the cancer cells rely on this male hormone in order to grow. Most cancers cells die down or just grow slowly without the way to obtain these hormones. The medicine that will be used is either to stop the body from producing hormonal or to block the testosterone to ever reaching the cells of cancer. Orchiectomy or the removal of testicles is another choice. This is to reduce the level of testosterone.

The hormone therapy is used for men with advanced cancer. The possible side effects are hot flashes, erectile dysfunction, as well as weight gain and reduced sex drive. Although these treatments may have side effects depending on the response of the entire body, possibility of cure is at hand. Just make sure to discuss with your physician which is the most appropriate and the most necessary treatment for your cancer. More details can be found when you may visit this site http://www.ProstrateCancerTreatment.org.

Radiotherapy is one of the many treatment options prostate cancer individual has to choose. This is a method that uses high energy x-rays or any other types or energy. It aims to kill the most cancers cells or to keep the most cancers cells from growing back again.

There are two known types of therapy using radiation which may be used to treat prostate cancer. One is the external radiation therapy (XRT) which utilizes a machine or perhaps a medical equipment outside of the entire body and is capable of sending radiation. The other one is the internal radiotherapy which uses radioactive substance as with the brachytherapy.

An example of an external radiation therapy is the IMRT or the Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy in which multiple beams coming from a variety of directions are used to focused on the prospective area- the prostate gland. The doctors were able to adjust the strength and the strength of the beams based on the computerized program before the operation. This is important so that more radiation will blast the tumors or the cancer cells and less is delivered to the nearby organs like bladder as well as rectum.

In Brachytherapy, some tiny radioactive capsules which they call “seeds” are implanted into the cancerous prostate glands. These seeds will then give off radiation to the surrounding places aiming to kill all the malignant tumors. Men that are identified as having prostate cancer at stage T1 or T2 have been demonstrated to be candidate for this type of treatment.

The oncologist first results in a 3-D grid map area of prostate using TRUS or Transrectal Ultrasound. The pc will then calculates the volume from the gland; determine the number of seeds that will be implanted and also to figure out the location of the implantation.

The procedure would take about 50 to 60 minutes to finish and usually on an hospital basis. The patient is only given a regional anesthesia prior to a needle with about 100 or more rice-sized seeds are placed to a predetermined area. These seeds contain the radioactive isotopes of palladium 103 as well as iodine 125 capable of emitting radiation for a period of three months. These isotopes will become inert after the three month period.

There are side effects the men are suffering when treated with radiation. Impotence as well as urinary problems is the most common types. Men who went through the radiation therapy have a greater risk of anal cancer and also bladder most cancers. A small number of patients who have gone through brachytherapy especially those over the age of 70 are also noted to have experience erectile dysfunction or incontinence.

With the technology of ours today, time will come the percentage of men will be fully recovered after the radiation or other treatment options they gone through. Gather more information through going to http://www.ProstateRadiation.org.

There are various treatments in prostate cancer. All these especially the radiotherapy is aiming to destroy only the malignant tumor or the most cancers cells. Most of the time though not only the cancer cells are destroyed but the healthy cells and tissue.

Side effects will be experienced by the patient. A side effect is the undesirable motion of the treatment or the effect of the drug given on the patient. Its duration would depend on the type of treatment that was given and varies from one individual to the next. Some of the side effects are due to the treatment used to stop the spread of cancer. The others are because of the disease itself. The 2 known major side effects endured by a prostate cancer patient in their therapy are erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

Failing to hold urine inside the bladder voluntarily or inability to control the flow of the urine which is called urinary incontinence. Some patients regain control after a few days of surgery and radiation treatment. There are exercises that really help a patient regain this kind of negative effects. They call it Kegel exercise. There are medications that may help relieve also incontinence. Talk to your doctor about this.

Erectile dysfunction is the failure to achieve or even maintain an erection which is necessary during sexual intercourse. Ninety percent will experience impotence especially if they gone through orchiectomy or the removal of testicles. Hormonal therapy also causes impotence because one of the aims of this treatment methods are to reduce the male hormone testosterone level.

Other side effects of the various treatment of prostate cancer include infertility, pain and weakening of the bone fragments. There are cases the cancer propagates to the bones already. This condition would result to a lot of excruciating pain and will weaken the actual bone which later lead to fracture if not treated. You have to talk to your doctor about these before the start of your strategy to you to come up with the possible therapy with fewer side effects or even tolerable side effects.

Men undergoing treatment may have one or more of these negative effects but take note not all men will have the same effect; other people may not have at all. Let your doctor know the side effects you are struggling. They are there with you and with the health care team will help you to become more comfortable as possible. There are support services you can turn to if you think like talking about your pain. Support groups and counseling assists a lot in managing the negative effects you are suffering. Gather more information through visiting http://www.ProstateCancerSideEffects.com.

One important substance that is produced by the prostate Antigen may be the PSA or the Prostate Gland Antige. This substance is commonly based in the semen but a small quantity could have leaked in our bloodstream. A blood test can be done to determine the amount of PSA in our bloodstream. It is usually measured in nanograms for each millimeter of blood. Males with normal prostate will have fewer than 4 nanograms, higher than this particular reading would mean having a cancer of the prostate.

American Cancer Society reported that if the PSA level is in between 4 and 10 regarding 25% chance you will have a prostate cancer. The greater the PSA level than 10 increases the chance also of having the cancer by 50%. There are several elements that might be the reason for the elevation of the PSA. It includes ejaculation, irritation of the so called prostate gland and also the non cancerous enlargement from the prostate. Although PSA levels raises naturally as the person ages, it would be to your advantage if you make sure your prostate are normal and working just fine.

A Prostate Specific Antigen or a PSA is also known as a protein that is formed by the prostate gland. A test to measure the count of PSA in the blood can also be called PSA test. By taking a small amount of blood sample, the doctor assessments it in the laboratory to determine the PSA level. This test is also known as tumor marker because it can be used also to detect diseases.

Normally men have lower count of PSA in their blood. Benign and prostate cancer conditions increases the degree of PSA. The most benign prostate condition is the prostatitis or the inflammation from the prostate. The PSA level is not the only basis of the doctor to help him or her distinguish benign from cancer. But the result is taken into account when deciding if follow check up is necessary to determine the presence of prostate cancer.

In the US, the Food and Drug Administration has already approved the way of PSA together with the digital anal exam or DRE to help them discover the existence of prostate cancer in a 50 year old patient or more mature. If the PSA level started to rise once again it could be a sign that the cancer is recurring. Some doctors are using PSA test as well as DRE to help the actual doctors detect the presence of cancer of the prostate to these patients that have absolutely no symptoms at all.

The level of the psa might not be due to the prostate cancer, but it serves as a basis in some other prostate-related illnesses which will eventually lead to cancer. More information can be found through going to http://www.ProstateCancerPSA.org.

After you have been diagnose having a prostate cancer, the next step would be to give you a series of test to find out if the cancer cells are just contained in the prostate or has already spread to other parts of the body. The process of finding is known as staging.

The result of the test which was given and other information gathered will be the basis in finding the stage of the disease. This is necessary so that the doctor will have a concept what treatment plan is appropriate for the stage. One of the test or even procedure that is being done in staging process is called Radionuclide bone fragments scan. This is a procedure to know if the cancer cells distribute in the bone.

In Stage I prostate cancer, the actual malignant cancer cells are only contained in the prostate glands. Using needle biopsy, cancer cells is found about one half or less of the one lobe of prostate. Most of the cancer tissue are not visible by image resolution and cannot be felt when having a digital rectal exam. The level of PSA is lower that Ten the Gleason score is 6.

In Stage II, it’s more advanced than the Stage I but still the cancers tissue were not able to spread outside the prostate. It is divided into Stage IIA or Stage IIB. The PSA level in Stage IIA is at least Ten but lower than 20 while the Gleason score is 7. Cancer is located more or less one-half lobe of the prostate. In Stage IIB on the other and, cancer is located both lobes of the prostate. It is not visible still by image resolution yet nor felt during rectal exam.

In the Stage III, the cancer cells have already distribute outside the prostate gland. It may spread to the nearby tissues even to the actual seminal vesicles, a gland that produces the actual semen. It does not reach faraway areas yet where additional organs and lymph nodes are found. The actual PSA is already at any level and the Gleason score is which range from 2 to 10.

Stage IV is the final stage. In this stage, cancer tissue has spread not only to the actual seminal vesicles but to nearby organs like the bladder, rectum and even the pelvic wall. Others even spread to lymph nodes and nearby bones. The most common symptoms of cancer already in Stage IV is trouble with urinating, blood in urine, severe pain in the lower abdomen, weak point and nausea. By knowing the stage of your cancer, your doctor are now able to device a treatment plan ideal for your case. Additional particulars can be found through visiting http://www.ProstateCancerStages.net.

Most men are developing the enlarged prostate at one point of their lives. Symptoms of prostate enlargement include difficulties at the beginning of urination, frequent urination, and weaker flow of urine. Men suffering these symptoms must seek medical help to make sure that only the enlargement of prostate is the problem and not the prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer has been the 2nd largest cause of death in males. The problem with the prostate cancer is the symptoms. They don’t usually show during the initial phases, and once it manifest, it is already in the late stages making it hard to treat. The major the signs of the prostate cancer is similar with the the signs of prostate enlargement although the advanced stages include back pains, thigh and hip discomfort, fatigue and unexplained weight loss.

Usually, prostate cancer could be treated by means of radiation therapy and surgery. The most common method of treatment is surgery in the early stages of cancer. However, you have the risk involved with surgery so most men are turning into radiation therapy.

Radiation therapy is working by means of killing cancer cells and never the healthy cells. Two of the most common methods of radiation therapy are the external beam radiation and also the seed therapy. Seed therapy is involving the implants of smaller amount of the radioactive materials from the prostate. These radioactive materials is going to be lasting for two years so that the cancer cells will totally be eliminated.

The external beam therapy is a painless radiation therapy and an out patient process. The beam is going to be focused and aim areas affected by the cancer. Once the cancer areas have spread, this radiation can continue to aim the spread of cancer cells as well. The treatment will last for 5 days or even over one week.

Side effects in the prostate radiation therapy include impotence, incontinence and fatigue. However, not all of the patients will likely suffer along side it effects. The treatment for initial phases of the prostate cancer usually becomes successful. As the prostate cancer that are diagnosed at the later stage, the prosperity of the treatment usually drops to 50%. View more at http://prostateradiation.org/blog/.

It is very essential to recognize the development of the condition once a patient has been discovered with prostate cancer so that accurate treatments could be prescribed. Staging is the process of the determining the progress of the cancer and the degree of the spread of the most cancers.

Prostate cancer has four stages. While prostate cancer develops from Stage One to Stage 4, the actual tumor cells will travel from inside the prostate and move outside into the close tissue and also lymph nodes and to some organs during the higher stage from the ailment.

Some doctors use the “Gleason Score” in determining if the prostate cancer tissue have the capacity to spread. Several physicians make use of the tumor, nodes metastasis (TNM) system associated with grading the stages associated with prostate cancer. The principal TNM system is the following:

One.T (Tumor) – it describes the mass from the major area of prostate cancer
2.D (Nodes) –it illustrates whether the cancer offers scattered to some lymph nodes and how big.
3.M (Metastasis) – it means the far-away spread of the most cancers cells of prostate, for example to the liver or the bones.

The following are the four stages of Prostate Cancer:

•Stage 1 – In this stage, the cancer is fixed inside the prostate and it is only microscopic in size. Generally, the cancer could not be seen with imaging and its size is not normal, even the Digital Rectal Examination (DRE) can not detect it. It’s relatively low if Gleason Rating is utilized. It is classified as T1 with the use of TNM system
•Stage 2 – The actual tumor is still found within the actual prostate; however, it has elevated in size. The result is moderately reduced, generally 2 or 3 if Gleason Rating being used. The TNM system grades this particular as T2 cancer that can be discovered by DRE. The elevated PSA can be shown in the blood test.
•Stage Three – Here the tumor expands outside the prostate but has not yet scattered with other lymph nodes or organs. The tumor cells could have attacked the actual seminal glands that form the semen. It’s stage T3 with the use TNM system and Gleason score of 4, 5, or 6.
•Stage 4 – In this stage, the cancer has metastasized, it has scattered to other main organs. The cancer cells usually invade the anus and the bladder. Even the pancreas, lymph nodes, liver, lungs, bones and kidney can be affected also. The TNM score could be T4 and also the Gleason Score as high as 8, 9, or 10. More information are available when you will visit this website http://www.CancerStages.org.

 PSA Test

Prostate Cancer survivor, Nelson man Lee Nelson a retired doctor, said that Prostate Cancer is an’insidious and sneaky’ disease. in the detection of prostate cancer men must be much more proactive. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer
in 1997 after his first routine prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test. He was in incredibly good shape for 55 and had no signs or symptoms of the cancer that was already spreading through his body.

Returning home to the USA after the PSA test Nelson sort out advice from some of the best prostate cancer experts.

He said that he was given 7 different strongly voiced medical opinions.

He decided on a radical treatment regime that was a combination of 3 things – radiation and hormonal therapy and lifestyle changes, after studying thousands of papers on the subject.

It’s important to understand that there are many treatment options and therefore many potential side effects from cancer so we need to understand the disease.

He commented that like him you could have no symptoms and so be in a dangerous position, because prostate cancer is a sneaky and insidious disease so you’ve got to have your blood tested regularly.

‘I wouldn’t be alive today if I’d waited another year without a PSA test’. It’s as simple as that. If you have family history of prostate cancer you need to get your first test at 35 otherwise begin PSA testing at 40 years old’ Nelson recommends.

Where breast cancer is the leading killer of women in NZ, prostate cancer is the no 1 cancer killer of men’ he said. breast cancer is publicised and promoted much more however.

Prevention of the disease could be aided by vitamin D, substituting fish for meat, reducing stress and increasing exercise. Any of fruit high in antioxidants such as pomegranate and berries would be beneficial also to your prostate health he said .

Also if taken early and regularly any of the good natural Prostate Supplements could also help to prevent cancers developing.

There was a 70 year old man also living in NZ was prompted to visit his GP with urinary symptoms suggesting an enlarged prostate. As is standard procedure the doctor did a PSA blood test. The results caused the doctor to suspect prostate cancer as the PSA levels were elevated. but decided that another PSA Test should be carried out after 3 months. The clinic did write to the man once to remind him that he needed to have a further PSA test but didn’t followup that initial contact.

After seeing blood in his urine the man visited his doctor again but it was 12 months later. That test showed higher psa levels than 12 months previous . and the man was subsequently diagnosed with a spreading prostate cancer by a consultant urologist.

So the real message here is as follows;

Start taking Prostate Supplements such as %Maximum Prostate1% maximum prostate from an early age – don’t wait until it’s too late.

Prevention is better than cure.
Get your first PSA test at 40 years of age
Repeat PSA blood tests every 12 months – closer together perhaps as you get older
If the tests show raised PSA level and your doctor wants to have another test a few months later – don’t forget!
Ask to be referred to a Urologist if PSA levels are too high

Prostate cancer is thought to be the most common cancer in New Zealand men, with more than 2,900 men diagnosed every year. 50% (335) of the 670 that die per year from prostate cancer could be prevented in NZ through early detection. See %PSA Testing2% PSA Testing for more info.

Cancer of the prostate affects generally men aged over sixty. The tissue overgrowth from the prostate organ of several men’re affected as they grow older. Most often the overgrown tissue becomes benign, but there are times the overgrowth is distinguished by abnormal tumor cells that lead to cancer of the prostate. The ailment could be gift for many years without the knowledge of the individual.
The general survival rates of prostate cance are extremely high as compared to the majority of cancer cases. In the United States, only three percent of the patients surrender to the illness. The survival rate from the whole five years for prostate cancer is one hundred percent in the United States, the survival rate inn ten years is the Ninety-two percent and 70 % in fifteen years.

The diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer are located in the grading system, usually the Gleason Score that allots grades ranging from one to ten based on the volume of the cells in the tumor tissue seem like the normal tissues of the prostate. The score of 2 to 4 is regarded as low, five to seven as intermediate and 8 to 10 as high grade. If the grade is high, the more rapid is the spread from the cancer.

The survival rates of prostate cancer are among the lowly for males who have cancer that has breached the prostate. On the standard Forty-six percent of patients having metastasis of prostate disease expire within twenty-two months, and barely thirty-two percent can get to the five-year mark of survival.

Generally, cancer of the prostate grows very slowly with an elevated occurrence in developing countries, since most men in these developing countries succumb with a diseases long before cancer of the prostate has the opportunity to develop to the extent wherein you can get mortality death to the patient.
